They are now showing off the functionality of T-Touch Expert watches through their smart phone app. The app allows you to ‘use’ the functions of the watches on the screen of your phone. Barometer and thermometer readings are simulated as phones cannot take these readings. The chronograph and alarm functions work just as they do on the watch. Another popular app is an augmented reality that allows you to virtually try on a watch from anywhere. Guarantees will not be valid if the company perceive that the watch has been damaged because of misuse or abuse. It is your responsibility to follow the care instructions set out in the instructions that are received in the watch and to use common sense to ensure that you do not put undue pressure on the watch, for example by diving into a swimming pool with a non water resistant watch.

The law dictates that it is your responsibility, as a consumer, to look after any documentation that your receive with your watch and to keep proof of purchase, normally in the form of an invoice or a receipt. If you buy on line from Find Watches then this information is stored on the site and will also be emailed to you when the purchase is initially made but when you buy on a high street you need to keep hold of your receipt particularly if you buy with cash. A customer came in to our high street premises recently and she had bought a watch from a well known chain store by cash. She could not locate the receipt and they had not filled in the guarantee. When the watch stopped and she returned to the store they refused to help her saying that she could not prove that she had bought the watch from them. This is not uncommon.

If you pay by card then you have an additional protection because a relevant entry on a debit or credit card statement counts as a proof of purchase. Most credit card companies also have additional consumer protection in place.

The moral to this tale is that it is very important to make sure that you retain all of your paperwork. In the vast majority of cases nothing goes wrong but when it does you will have everything you need to request a guarantee repair.

Vintage Seiko watch

Recently bought in by one of our customers who dated it at around 30 years old.  It has a 17 jewels mechanical movement that had been running smoothly since its purchase in the 1970’s.  As the watch had started to loose time we arranged to have the watch fully serviced by Seiko’s in house repair and service team who returned it to full working condition.

In 1912 Joseph Bulova established his first factory solely given over to the manufacture of watch movements. This was in Bienne, Switzerland. He created a production line for the manufacture of watch movements, this was the first time that watch movements had been mass produced. This allowed for the vast number of people in America to be supplied with high quality and affordable watches.

Bulova provided an essential part of the space race to get the first man on the moon. All of the time keeping technology on the spacecraft that took Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the moon was powered by Bulova Accutron technology. This technology was chosen because NASA were unsure as to how low gravity would affect the workings of a traditional mechanical watch.

Bulova have always liked to stay a step ahead of other watch manufacturers. In 1926 they broadcast the first ever national radio commercial in America. They signalled the hour with “At the tone, it’s 8 o’clock B-U-L-O-V-A Watch time, this advertisement was heard by millions of people.

In 1926 Arde Bulova offered a prize of $1000 to pilot who would first suceed in a non stop Atlantic flight.   On June 12 1927 the award was presented to Charles Lindbergh in the form of a watch and the $1000 dollars for flying without pause from New York to Paris.  He later wrote a letter to Buloca stating that “the Bulova wrist watch, which is a pleasure to wear, keeps accurate time and is a beauty.”  The watch that he received was the Lone Eagle watch which was created to celebrate Lindbergh’s achievements.  The publicity surrounding the flight catapulted sales of the Bulova Lone Eagle watch, which is now considered to be one of Bulova’s best watches.

In July 1941 Bulova again led the field as they aired the first television commerical, for a fee of just $9!

They made a number of innovations in watchmaking and developed many tools specifically for use in the production of watches. Their innovations include using resonating tuning forks as a method of time regulation. This technique was used in their Accutron watches first availble in the autumn of 1960. A Swiss watch maker, Max Hetzel, was the inventor of this innovation, he joined the Swiss section of the Bulova watch company in 1948. The Accutron is regarded as the first electronic watch as the fork was powered by an electronic circuit.

The Accutron watch was used aboard the presidential plane, Air Force One and was frequently given as an official presidential gift. The watches were also the first ones to be given to railroad workers, as they were acknowledged as the first watch that was accurate enough to be in general use.

More recently in the year 2000, Bulova celebrated it’s 125^th birthday. To celebrate the mayor of New York declared April 10^th to be Bulova day!

The Scissors Sisters are hosting a one off music special on Thursday the 4^th of November on ITV2. Dermot O’Leary hosts the show, he meets with Sir Paul McCartney to talk about the making of the 1973 classic Wings album Band on the Run.  The creation of this landmark album was not plain sailing.  When Sir Paul flew out to Lagos, Nigeria to record the album two of his band members had just resigned.  More surprises were in store, arriving at the studio he found that it was only half finished and no part was ready for the band to perform.   McCartney was mugged soon after, losing all of his demo tapes and almost his life.

The creation of this album did not end in the chaos that it started in.  Paul McCartney alongside band members Denny Laine and his then wife Linda McCartney went on to record one of the most prominent albums of the decade.  Many of the singles became hit singles and the album itself was awarded a Grammy.

The program also hears from other key players in the creation of the album. It will include stories about the shooting of the iconic album cover which featured many stars of the day including boxer John Conteh and entertainer Kenny Lynch.

Tissot's President and Tony Parker Signing the Deal

His achievements include leading the French team to a bronze medal in the 2005 European Championships and an impressive list of winnings in the NBA. The Expendables is the highly anticipated movie that has all of the most famous 90’s action stars coming together to create a fast paced, explosive movie.  The Expendables is being promoted by Police watches and Police accessories, the urban lifestyle brand.  The credits read like a roll call of the most famous 90’s action movie stars in the world . The Expendables is directed by Sylvester Stallone who also stars in the film and it seems that the fans love it. Of course you shouldn’t expect great acting or an amazing story but that isn’t what The Expendables is about.
